Interface Overview

A walkthrough of the ScribeScoop desktop application interface, including the sidebar, title bar, and main content area.

Application layout

The ScribeScoop desktop application has three main areas: the title bar at the top, the sidebar on the left, and the main content area in the center.

Title bar

The title bar runs along the top of the window and contains:

  • ScribeScoop logo and name -- Displayed on the left side.
  • Theme toggle -- Switches between dark and light mode. Your preference is saved and applied automatically the next time you open the application.
  • View toggle -- Switches between the full view and minimal view (described below).
  • Minimize and Close buttons -- Standard window controls on the right side.

You can drag the title bar to move the application window around your screen.

Sidebar

The sidebar provides navigation between the main sections of the application. It can be expanded or collapsed by clicking the arrow button at the top of the sidebar.

The sidebar includes the following navigation items:

  • Capture -- The main recording screen where you start and stop recordings. When a recording is active, a red "REC" indicator appears next to this item.
  • Recordings -- A file browser showing all your saved recordings. From here you can select recordings to process, view previous results, or delete files.
  • Results -- Appears after you process a recording. Shows the transcript and summary for the most recently processed file.
  • Settings -- Opens the settings panel where you can manage your account, summary profiles, and display preferences.

User profile section

At the bottom of the sidebar, when expanded, you will see your user profile section. This displays:

  • Your username (derived from your email address).
  • Your current subscription plan.
  • A usage bar showing how many transcription minutes you have used this month relative to your plan limit. The bar changes color as you approach your limit: green when usage is low, orange when moderate, and red when you are near the limit.
  • The number of minutes remaining on your plan.

Main content area

The main content area takes up the rest of the window and displays the content for whichever section you have selected in the sidebar. This includes the Capture controls, the Recordings file browser, or the Results viewer.

Minimal view

Minimal view is a compact floating window designed for use during active recordings. When you switch to minimal view using the toggle in the title bar, the window shrinks to show only the essential recording controls:

  • The recording timer.
  • Audio level meters for microphone and system audio.
  • The stop button.

This is useful when you want ScribeScoop to stay visible during a meeting without taking up much screen space. You can switch back to the full view at any time using the same toggle button.

Dark and light mode

ScribeScoop supports both dark and light color schemes. Dark mode is the default. You can switch between them using the theme toggle button in the title bar (a sun or moon icon). Your preference is saved and persists across sessions.
