Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about ScribeScoop.

General

What meeting applications does ScribeScoop work with?

ScribeScoop works with any application that produces audio on your computer. This includes Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, Webex, Slack Huddles, Discord, and any other conferencing or communication tool. It captures audio at the system level, so it is not dependent on any specific application.

Does ScribeScoop record my screen or video?

No. ScribeScoop only records audio. It captures sound from your microphone and system audio output. No screen content, video, or visual data is captured.

Can I use ScribeScoop on macOS or Linux?

Currently, ScribeScoop is available for Windows 10 and later (64-bit). macOS and Linux support is planned for a future release.

Do I need an internet connection to use ScribeScoop?

An internet connection is required for signing in, processing recordings (transcription and summarization), and checking usage. However, you can record audio offline. The recording is saved locally and can be processed later when you reconnect. Previously processed results are cached locally and can be viewed without an internet connection.

Recording

What audio formats are supported for recording?

ScribeScoop supports MP3 and WAV output formats. MP3 is recommended for most use cases because it produces smaller files. WAV provides uncompressed audio for situations where maximum fidelity is needed.

Is there a maximum recording length?

There is no hard limit on recording length. However, the resulting file must be under 100 MB to be processed for transcription. Using MP3 format, this allows for several hours of recording. WAV files are larger and may reach the limit sooner.

Where are my recordings stored?

By default, recordings are saved to a ScribeScoop folder inside your Documents directory. You can change the output directory from the Capture screen at any time.

Can I record only my microphone without system audio?

Yes. If you do not need to capture system audio, you can simply leave the system audio device selector as-is. The recording will primarily contain your microphone input. Any system audio from the selected output device will also be captured, so if no audio is playing through that device, the system audio track will be silent.

Transcription and summaries

What languages are supported for transcription?

Transcription is powered by OpenAI Whisper, which supports a wide range of languages. The model automatically detects the spoken language in your recording and transcribes accordingly.

Can I re-process a recording with a different summary profile?

Yes. Select the recording in the Recordings tab, choose a different summary profile from the dropdown, and click Process. The new results will replace the previously cached version.

Are my recordings and transcriptions stored on your servers?

Audio files are uploaded temporarily for processing and are not retained after the transcription is complete. Your transcription results are cached locally on your computer in a local database. Usage metadata (such as file names and minutes used) is stored in the ScribeScoop database for usage tracking purposes.

Why is my transcription inaccurate?

Transcription accuracy depends on audio quality. Common causes of inaccurate transcription include:

  • Background noise or music during the recording.
  • Multiple people speaking at the same time.
  • Very low microphone volume.
  • Poor audio quality from remote participants.

For best results, use a good microphone, minimize background noise, and ensure remote participants have clear audio.

Account and billing

How do I reset my password?

Sign in to the web dashboard, go to the Account page, and use the password change form. You need to meet all password requirements (minimum 8 characters, uppercase, lowercase, number, and special character).

What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?

If you cancel your subscription, your plan reverts to the Free tier at the end of the current billing period. Your recordings remain on your computer and previously processed results remain in the local cache. You can still access and export your existing results.

When does my monthly usage reset?

Your transcription minute allowance resets at the beginning of each calendar month. Unused minutes do not roll over.

Privacy and security

Is my audio data encrypted during upload?

Yes. All communication between the desktop application and the ScribeScoop processing service uses HTTPS encryption. Audio files are transmitted securely.

Who can access my transcriptions?

Your transcriptions are cached locally on your computer and are only accessible to you. The processing service requires your authenticated session to process files. No other users can access your recordings or results.
